Sedalia Man Celebrates $88,000 Lottery Prize

Story Photo audio icon A Sedalia man received more than a dose of vitamin C on the morning of April 9.  Danny Downs, 62, was drinking a glass of orange juice when he decided to scratch off a Missouri Lottery "Emerald Green 8’s" Scratchers ticket he purchased at VFW 2591, 121 S. Ohio Ave., in Sedalia.  The first-time Lottery winner "couldn’t believe it" when he realized he was holding a winning ticket.

"I hit $10,000, and then I just kept scratching, and all of them were 8’s," he recalled.

He immediately took the ticket to the cashier for confirmation.

"She said, ’Do you know what you won?’" he began.  "I said, ’No, that’s why I asked you to check it.’  She said, ’You won $88,000!’"

The disabled construction worker plans to purchase a new truck and "pay off a lot of bills" with the windfall.

"I’m feeling wonderful right now," he added.

"Emerald Green 8’s" is a $5 game that officially began on July 18, 2009.  The game offers a top prize of $88,000 and thousands of additional prizes ranging from $5 to $10,000.
