Mexico Woman Wins $4,000 Scratchers Prize
Gloria Groves of Mexico considers herself a regular Missouri Lottery player. She used to play $5 Scratchers games, but has since graduated to the $20 games.
"I win better," Groves explained.
That was certainly true of a $20 ticket she purchased on April 6. Groves bought a "$5,000,000 Cash Extravaganza" Scratchers ticket from Break Time, 1411 W. Monroe St., in Mexico. While scratching the ticket off in the parking lot, Groves discovered it was a $4,000 winner. She tried to go back into the store to check the ticket, but left after seeing the store was busy.
"I called my girlfriend up and said, ’I think I won $4,000!’ I couldn’t get a hold of my husband," she recalled. "I did call my son, and he said, ’Can you loan me some money?’"
The 63-year-old retiree said that the money would be used to "have fun."
"Of course, everybody has bills to pay," acknowledged Groves. "I’m ready for another bigger one now."
Groves also said that, along with her husband, Harry, they would probably splurge for a family dinner.
"All my kids are home, because they are having a baby shower for my daughter, so I’m going to take them all out to eat. And pay for it!" she added.
"$5,000,000 Cash Extravaganza"
is a $20 game that officially began on Jan. 24. The top prize in the game is $5 million, with a second prize of $1 million.
