St. Joseph Woman Wins $50,000 on "Crossword"
A fan of the Missouri Lottery "Crossword" Scratchers game couldn’t sleep after uncovering the top prize of $50,000. Kasey Ebling of St. Joseph purchased a $3 "Crossword" ticket at City Star II, 2130 Frederick in St. Joseph, on April 2. The 24-year-old Lottery winner said she frequently plays the "Crossword" game, and she traded one ticket for another while traveling to pick her boyfriend up from work.
"I play the ’Crossword’ (tickets) every day; just keep recycling them," explained Ebling. "Buy more, then win and then buy more. I was shocked when I hit that big one!"
Ebling scratched the ticket off at her home and became excited when she discovered the top prize.
"I took NyQuil® because I had a cold and thinking I was about to go to bed," she recalled. "I couldn’t even sleep after that! I just was excited. My heart was racing and I couldn’t sleep."
Because the win happened on a Friday, Ebling had to wait until Monday to claim her ticket at the Kansas City Lottery office. She said she slept with the ticket under her pillow and carried the ticket in her purse during the day.
"I was pinching myself thinking, ’I’m dreaming,’ you know. Because I’ve had the same dream that I won, but in my dream, I won $60,000. I thought I was dreaming," Ebling stated.
According to Ebling, she may invest the money in a small house to fix up. And for the young woman who likes to stay tan, she said that she will probably purchase a tanning bed of her own.
"Keep playing," Ebling suggested to other players. "You have to play to win. My boyfriend said, ’You play so much, one day you might hit a big one.’ And sure enough, I did."
is a $3 game with a top prize of $50,000. The latest version of the popular game officially began Feb. 27. Players can win amounts ranging from $3 to $50,000 based on the number of words they are able to spell after uncovering letters. Many have expressed their preference for the game because of the extended play opportunity on the ticket.
