It’s not every day that a group of nine co-workers walks into the Missouri Lottery’s St. Louis regional office to claim a Powerball prize, but that’s what happened yesterday with a group of employees from Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis. They matched four white-ball numbers and the Powerball during the March 20 drawing to win a $10,000 cash prize.
The award will be split equally between: Mary Kelly and Jeanne Smith of Arnold; Geraldine Sell of Festus; Grace Bradshaw, Fatma Karajic, Barbara Stemick, Cathy Stirnemann and William Westmeyer, all of St. Louis; and Patricia Berning of Valmeyer, Ill.
Speaking for the group, Smith said they had been playing Powerball as a team since 2007, buying their tickets at a variety of locations for each Wednesday and Saturday night drawing. Their $10,000 winning ticket was purchased at Smoke Shop, 1389 Jeffco Blvd., in Arnold.
While the group was just one white-ball number away from hitting the big jackpot, they were happy with a $10,000 collective payday.
“We finally won, and now we’re looking forward to hitting the big one,” Smith said.
Powerball is a multi-state game that features jackpots starting at $20 million. The estimated jackpot for the next Powerball drawing on March 27 is $60 million.
