Change of Routine Leads to Lottery Prize

Taking a different route home from a friend’s house led Cynthia Ringo to a $10,000 cash prize when she discovered she was holding a winning Missouri Lottery “Mega MONOPOLY™” Scratchers ticket during the early morning hours of March 23.

“I never stop at this station,” said Ringo, speaking about her unplanned visit to the Fast Lane at 1009 S. Highway 79 in Winfield.

“I went in, and there was a sign above the ticket that said, ‘HOT,’” she said.  “So I tried it.”

Ringo, 30, of Old Monroe, then took her new purchase to the car, where she uncovered the ticket’s winning numbers.

“I really couldn’t believe it,” she said.  “I went back in and said, ‘Did I really win this?  What do I do?’”

According to Ringo, she knew right away that she wanted to cash in her winning ticket as soon as possible, so she decided to enlist the help of her friend, Linda.

“I knew I was not leaving it in my purse, not waiting.  It’s coming with me now,” she shared.  “So I called Linda and said, ‘I need your help.  Get up.’  She said, ‘Are you dying?’ and I said, ‘I won money.  I won $10,000, so are you coming or not?’”

“That was at 2:56 a.m.,” Linda offered, smiling as she noted the call log on her cell phone.

The pair stopped off to eat breakfast – Ringo’s treat – during their three hour journey to Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City, and were ready to claim the winning ticket when the doors opened at 8 a.m.

“Mega MONOPOLY™” is a $10 game that officially began Aug. 29, 2009, and, to date, four top prizes of $2 million remain unclaimed.
