Last Minute Purchase Leads to $30,000 Lottery Prize

Feeling spontaneous, Michael Young used the $2 he had left over from a purchase at a local convenience store to buy a single Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket.  It proved to be a lucky move for the factory worker from Vandalia when the $2 “Triple Payout” ticket yielded the game’s top prize of $30,000.

Young, 33, scratched the winning ticket in his car and immediately called his wife, Jennifer, to share the good news.

“I didn’t even answer at first,” Jennifer shared.  “I was on the other line with my mother, and when I did talk to him, I thought he was pulling my leg.”

The couple admits to “checking the ticket like 10 times” to make sure they were reading it correctly before making plans to claim their winnings at Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City.  They plan to use the unexpected prize money to pay off debt.

Young purchased his winning ticket Abel’s Quick Shop, 708 W. Highway 54, in Vandalia on March 20.

Triple Payout” is a $2 game that officially began Aug. 29, 2009.  To date, the game has paid more than $7 million in prizes to Missouri Lottery players.

Details on remaining prizes for all Missouri Lottery Scratchers games can be found on Molottery.com.
