Dexter Man Doubles Down With Power Play
Gary Marron Sr. is so committed to adding Power Play to his Powerball ticket purchases that he went back in and bought another ticket when he realized that he forgot to check the Power Play box the first time. That level of commitment paid off handsomely for the 55-year-old Dexter man on March 13. Marron’s ticket consisting of his children’s birthdates matched four white-ball numbers and the Powerball number to win $10,000. The second ticket he purchased with Power Play multiplied that prize by the Power Play number of five, making Marron the recipient of a second prize of $50,000. He claimed both tickets at the St. Louis regional Lottery office on the morning of March 15.
Marron said that he discovered he was a winner after waking up the morning after the drawing at 3:30 a.m. and checking his tickets. Caught in the moment, he woke his wife, Rebecca, with his celebration, but she "quickly forgave him" when she discovered what the ruckus was about.
Marron purchased his winning tickets at BJ’s Kwik Shop, 623 State Highway 25 North, in Dexter. The winning Powerball numbers for March 13 were: 6, 16, 20, 31, 26, and the Powerball number was 8. Marron said he has been playing the combination of birthdates for about 10 years.
Plans for the windfall include remodeling the dining room of his home and sharing a little with his four children. When asked if he would continue to play the same numbers, Marron said that he would.
"You never know, it might come back around," he mused.
is a multi-lottery Numbers Game with jackpots that start at $20 million. For an extra $1 at the time of purchase, players can select the Power Play option and multiply prizes other than the jackpot by the Power Play number.
