Daughter's Favorite Color to Thank for $10,000 Lottery Prize

Story Photo audio icon It was an emotional day for one Camdenton woman.  To begin, Peggy Ede, 48, said goodbye to one of her four daughters who was visiting for the day from college.  After wishing her daughter well, she decided to stop at Lake Oasis Convenience Store, 321 N. Highway 5 in Camdenton, to cash in a $20 winning ticket.  While at the store, she started thinking about her daughter, and she remembered something – her favorite color.

"She loves the color pink," she began.  "I said, ’I want that pretty pink one for my daughter.’"

After making the purchase, Ede returned to her car to begin scratching the Missouri Lottery "5,000,000 Cash Extravaganza" Scratchers ticket.

"I scratched the first one, and it was $1,000, and then 10 $1,000s," she recalled.  "I did the happy dance, and I went inside the store, ’Is this real?  Is this real?’’’

The clerks confirmed that the largely pink-colored ticket was real and worth $10,000.

The self-employed owner of "Peggy Sue’s Affordable Cleaning and Painting," said she never expected to win the Lottery.

She noted that she plans to "get ahead on my bills" and buy a used truck for her business with the windfall.

"I just feel really good," she added.

"$5,000,000 Cash Extravaganza," a $20 game, officially began on Jan. 23.  The game features 13 prizes from $1 to $5 million and offers more than $120,000,000 in total prizes.
