ST. PETERS MAN WINS FIRST $50,000 TAX-PAID PRIZE
Winning $25,000 tax paid was great, but winning $50,000 tax paid* is even better according to a St. Peters man who won the first top prize awarded through the Missouri Lottery’s newest Numbers game - SHOW ME 5 Paydown. Clifford Coppedge, 52, won the new game’s top prize when his ticket matched all five numbers drawn Nov. 15.
Coppedge, a self-employed handyman, said he had been playing SHOW ME 5 for a while and wasn’t aware the game had recently changed to SHOW ME 5 Paydown with a larger top prize.
Coppedge purchased his winning ticket at Convenient Food, 6105 Mexico Road in St. Peters. He used numbers from his address to help select the winning numbers, which were: 6, 10, 14, 25 and 30.
Coppedge said he and his wife, Judy, plan to use their winnings to do work on their house, share some with their two children and make investments.
SHOW ME 5 Paydown, a daily game, began Nov. 6 with a new top prize of $50,000 tax paid* along with a paydown feature that, if the top prize is not won that night, the other prizes will more than double. The game also offers prizes for matching two, three and four numbers. The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 10.97.
*The Missouri Lottery will pay 28 percent federal and 4 percent state withholding taxes for the top prize based on its value. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may be entitled to a refund. Total value of the top prize is $73,529.41. After withholding, winners will receive $50,000. If more than 14 players match the five winning numbers in a single drawing, $1 million will be divided equally among the number of winning tickets.
