'Goofy Numbers' Lead Life-Long Friends to $60,000 Lottery Prize
Two friends had a lot to celebrate after their "goofy numbers" won them the $60,000 Missouri Lottery Show Cash jackpot prize from the Feb. 20 drawing. Roy Clark of Lexington and Billy Edwards of Wellington said they came up with the special combination of numbers years ago, and they have been playing them ever since.
"It’s a combination of our birthdays and retirement dates," Clark shared. "That’s why we call them our ’goofy numbers,’ because other than that, there isn’t a whole lot of reason behind the numbers."
The duo’s routine for playing the numbers includes a weekly stop at Just 1 More, 105 S. 2nd St. in Odessa, and lunch.
"We went to pick up some pizza and some tickets," he said. "We play the same numbers every week."
Clark said it was his wife who discovered their ticket had won.
"She was checking the numbers at home on the computer, and she said, ’I think you won something," he revealed.
The life-long friends split the $60,000 prize, giving each player $30,000 before taxes.
Both Clark, 70, and Edwards, 66, plan to talk to their "tax man" before deciding what to do with the prize money.
Since their "goofy numbers" finally hit, the pair plans to come up with a new set of numbers to play.
"We’re still thinking about what the new numbers will be," he said.
In the meantime, the lucky friends are continuing to play Show Me Cash, but they are "letting Quick Pick pick the numbers" until they can come up with a new set of "goofy numbers" to call their own.
Show Me Cash
offers a rolling jackpot starting at $50,000, which increases by at least $5,000 at each drawing. Clark and Edwards’ prize is the 76th Show Me Cash jackpot awarded since game began on Sept. 8, 2008. The winning numbers from the Feb. 20 drawing were: 1, 4, 9, 10 and 22.
