Missouri Proves Profitable for Lottery Player from Illinois

Cheaper fuel and a Lottery win awaited Monica Steffen as she crossed the state line from Illinois into Missouri to fill up her gas tank at Ayerco, 8800 Highway 24, in Taylor.  While there, Steffen, 49, purchased the Missouri Lottery’s newest $20 Scratchers game, “$5,000,000 Cash Extravaganza.”

“Gas is 30 cents cheaper when you get to Missouri,” she said.  “But I don’t know why I got this ticket there.  It’s the first $20 ticket I’ve ever bought.”

Once purchased, Steffen stuck it in her purse and forgot about it until about four hours later.  The results, when she finally scratched the ticket, were surprising to her, as well as her family members.

“We have a lot of pranksters,” she said, explaining that no one believed her initial phone calls about a $10,000 win.

Eyeing her check at Lottery headquarters, she added, “It’s exciting now that I see it.  Well, it was exciting before, but it’s really exciting now.”

Steffen, who resides in Clayton, Ill., plans to pay bills with her prize money and “save some for rainy days.”

$5,000,000 Cash Extravaganza,” a $20 game that officially began Jan. 23, features three top prizes of $5 million, 10 prizes of $1 million and thousands of other prizes ranging from $20 to $20,000.  Information on remaining prizes for all Missouri Lottery Scratchers games can be found at Molottery.com.
