Argyle Couple Claims $2.7 Million Lotto Jackpot
A couple from Argyle waited until the new year before claiming a $2.7 million prize. Larry and Elaine Heimericks knew right away that they held the winning ticket from the Dec. 16, 2009, Missouri Lotto drawing. That’s because the couple plays the same combination of family birthdates for every Lotto drawing. Elaine buys most of the tickets, although she will send her husband out for them if she forgets, as she did in this case. The set of winning Lotto numbers that were drawn on Dec. 16 are committed to memory: 1, 5, 10, 15, 17 and 22.
Citing taxes as the reason for waiting until 2010 to claim their prize, the Heimericks said they kept the ticket in a safe deposit box at their bank. The couple chose to receive their winnings in a lump-sum payment, an amount of $1.7 million, before taxes. The Heimericks said that the money will be used to buy some property and supplement their retirement.
The winning ticket was purchased at Break Time, 1200 Missouri Blvd., in Jefferson City. The retail location will receive a bonus equal to 1 percent of the winning jackpot, or $27,000.
