Smithton Man Claims $50,000 Show Me Cash Prize

Lucas Kearney headed out from his home in Smithton to buy a gallon of milk in Sedalia, never thinking the last minute decision to make his purchase at a Break Time store would lead him to a $50,000 Lottery prize.

“I had thought about going somewhere else for the milk,” he explained.  “But I just ended up going there.”

Kearney, 21, said he’s not sure what compelled him to buy a Show Me Cash ticket either, but attributed it to “kind of a feeling.”

Though he “didn’t really think anything of it,” he heard the store had sold a winning ticket for the Dec. 21 drawing and decided to have his ticket checked out.  Kearney and his mother, Susan, were back at the store the following day – shocked to learn he was the one holding that ticket.

“He went pale,” his mother shared with a laugh, detailing how both mother and son quickly got on the phone to start sharing the good news with family and friends.

Kearney’s plans for his Show Me Cash jackpot prize include helping his mother into a new home, hoping to tear down her current house – described as old and in need of repair – to put something else in its place.

“And I want to be the one driving the bulldozer,” she teased.

Kearney purchased his winning ticket at the Break Time located at 2603 E. Broadway in Sedalia.  The winning numbers for the Dec. 21 drawing were:  2, 11, 26, 33 and 39.

Show Me Cash offers a rolling jackpot that starts at $50,000 and increases by at least $5,000 at each daily drawing.  Players select a set of five numbers between 1 and 39 or use the Quick Pick feature to allow the computer to randomly choose the numbers for them.  Kearney’s ticket was the 66th Show Me Cash jackpot-winning ticket since the game began on Sept. 8, 2008.
