Janet Bedene and her husband, Dennis, were traveling from their home in Ratcliff, Ark., to visit family in Pittsburg, Kan., for an early Christmas celebration. Luckily for Bedene, that journey led them briefly into Missouri, where the 54-year-old purchased a “Ho Ho Bingo” Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket worth $25,003.
“We were on the state line at this gas station, and I bought $5 worth of scratch-off tickets,” she said, referring to their stop at FISCA Oil, 1734 W. Highway 126 in Asbury.
“I was scratching the tickets, and my husband was telling me I was going to get that scratching stuff all over the inside of the car,” she laughed.
It might have been worth a little “scratching stuff” though, as she soon believed she had won $600. That, however, was nothing compared to the excitement she later felt when she showed the ticket to her granddaughter.
“She said, ‘Nan, you have an X there,’” Bedene explained. “So I had to see what I’d win with an X.”
The answer was $25,003.
“Oh, I want to do some household remodeling,” she said when asked about how she would spend her prize money. “But, really, I’m probably going to invest it.”
Remaining prizes for “Ho Ho Bingo” total more than $3.5 million. The $3 Scratchers game, which officially began Oct. 24, offers a top prize of $50,000.
Through Jan. 5, non-winning “Ho Ho Bingo” tickets can also be entered in the Missouri Lottery’s second-chance "Holiday Magic" promotion for a chance to win trips for four to WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort®, $1,000 shopping sprees and Scratchers tickets.
