Lottery Win Makes Imperial Man Want to Do Cartwheels

“I won $10,000.  I won $10,000…”  Those were the words sung by Tom Biermann following his purchase of a Missouri Lottery “Emerald Green 8s” Scratchers ticket at the local Phillips station, 5209 Warren Road in Imperial.

The sales representative considers himself a regular Scratchers player, sometimes seeking out the help of others when deciding which game to play.

“I always ask the gas station attendant what they feel is lucky,” he said.  “So the gas station attendant picked this one.”

Going with the clerk’s recommendation, Biermann purchased the “Emerald Green 8s” game and took it home.  At first, he thought he had won $500 and handed the ticket to his wife, Jonna, happy with the outcome.

Very quickly, though, the couple realized the ticket was worth much more than $500.

“The whole thing was all eights,” he said, referring to the black “8” symbols on his card that indicated he had actually won a total of $10,000.

“I did 360s.  I think I did cartwheels.  Then I fell on my back and said, ‘Whooo hoooo,” Biermann laughed, reliving the moment.

Future plans include paying off his credit card bill, splitting what’s left “50-50” with his wife and “maybe a vacation next year.”

“It’s so cool, dude,” he concluded.

Remaining prizes for “Emerald Green 8s” total more than $6.8 million.  The $5 Scratchers game officially began July 18.
