'What If' Game Turns into Reality for Cairo Woman
A Cairo woman is enjoying a jumpstart to the holiday season with a $10,000 Missouri Lottery win. At first, Stephanie Boley, 41, thought she won $1,000 on a "Holiday Cash" Scratchers ticket. Yet, after adding up the prize amounts, she soon realized she had won much more.
According to Boley, she often played the "what if" game with her husband, but they had never won more than $100 until now. To play the game, the Boleys would purchase Lottery tickets and then discuss what they’d do with the prize money if they won. The fantasy turned into a reality when she purchased a winning ticket at Pick-A-Dilly, 1100 N. Morley St. in Moberly, on Nov. 11.
"I was like, ’no way’" she began. "That was when I gave it (ticket) back over to him (husband)."
Boley, who was in the parking lot of the store with her husband when she scratched the ticket in her car, returned to the store to confirm the win with the retail clerk. After learning the ticket was indeed a winner, the couple shared the news with their family.
When asked about plans for the prize money, the Boleys said it will "make Christmas a lot easier this year."
As for the "what if" game and the Missouri Lottery, the couple plans to keep playing both.
," a $2 game with a top prize of $25,000, officially began on Oct. 24. To date the game has eight top prizes, and thousands of $2 to $10,000 prizes, remaining in play.
