$25,000 T.G.I.F. FOR SEDALIA MAN

A Sedalia man returned to the store to pick up some milk and check to see if any of his lottery tickets were winners from the Friday, Feb. 18, drawing by the Missouri Lottery. After Donald Lamm Jr. went to checkout, he soon discovered he had won $25,000 tax-paid* playing SHOW ME 5. "Well, I started to walk out of the store thinking I didn’t win on any of my tickets," Lamm said. "Then the clerk called me back and said I had won on another ticket. Her eyes brightened up, and she told me I had won $25,000." Lamm, 73, purchased his winning ticket at Bing’s Thriftway, 16th Street and Highway 65 in Sedalia. The winning numbers were: 9, 15, 16, 19 and 21. He let the computer select his winning numbers. Lamm, a retired college instructor, plans to use his winnings for home improvements. The winnings will also be used as a treat for his daughters’ special Friday. "This Friday is one of my daughter’s wedding. She said that since I won this money, I could get her a better wedding present," Lamm said. "Also, one of my other daughters is celebrating her 22nd birthday on the same day, so she’ll get a nice present as well." *Twenty-eight percent federal tax and 4 percent state taxes are withheld from the total prize amount of $36,764.70 to provide $25,000 cash at the time of redemption. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may receive a refund.
