La Plata Couple Split $10,000 Scratchers Prize

Story Photo audio icon Gayle Perry had a feeling that his girlfriend was "due" for a large Scratchers prize.  Sure enough, lady luck came calling on Nov. 6.  Judy Shoush of La Plata picked up a Missouri Lottery "$200,000 A Year For Life" Scratchers ticket on her way to work and knew right away she was going to need a trip to Jefferson City to claim her prize.
"I just scratched the numbers off, and I saw that I had all those coins on it," began Shoush.  "I scratched this first one and saw that it was $500.  So I called Gayle on the phone and said, ’Gayle, what’s $500 times 20?  I’m not sure, but I think we just won $10,000.’"
After arriving at the Wal-Mart in Macon where she works, Shoush, 56, scratched the remainder of the ticket and confirmed that she had won a $10,000 prize.  She purchased the lucky ticket at Casey’s General Store, 10397 State Highway D in La Plata.
Shoush has won smaller prizes in the past, but said that this was her biggest win to date.  She indicated that she and Perry would split the prize and use the money to have a good Christmas.
"Pay a few bills, and then have a good Christmas for the grandkids," related Shoush.  "It’s just a little stress reliever."
"$200,000 A Year For Life" is a $20 game that officially began on Jan. 31.  The ticket features a top prize of $200,000 a year, or a lump sum of $3 million.  One of the three top prizes available in this game remains.
