Grocery Stop Leads Linn Woman to $10,000 Lottery Prize

What a difference an hour can make.  That was the case for Cheryl Probst when an afternoon visit to Thriftway Supermarket, 318 W. Main Street in Linn, quickly led the Linn woman to Missouri Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City.  Probst, 46, made the journey after discovering the “$250,000 Mega Cash” Scratchers ticket she purchased while shopping held a $10,000 cash prize.

While Probst considers herself a frequent Scratchers player, she said doesn’t know exactly what it was that made her select that particular ticket on Oct. 26.

“It was just kind of random today,” she said, noting that she had played the game before, but had stopped in favor of newer Scratchers tickets as they became available.

“When the new games came out, I had let that one go,” she said.

She would find that her instinct to try the game again paid off as she scratched the ticket in the store’s parking lot.

“I looked for the symbols, the instant winners, right away,” she explained.  “Then I looked at the other ones, and there was a match.”

Joking that the family was “officially ahead now,” Probst gathered her son and her father, and then pointed the car toward Jefferson City to claim her prize.

As for how the prize money will be spent, there wasn’t a lot of time to think about it.

“We’ll worry about that on the way home,” the trio teased.

$250,000 Mega Cash ” is a $10 ticket, offering a top prize of $250,000.  The game officially started Jan. 31, 2007, and still has seven top prizes – as well as thousands of prizes between $10 and $20,000 – remaining in play.  Information about remaining prizes for “$250,000 Mega Cash” and all other Missouri Lottery Scratchers games can be found on Molottery.com.
