Memphis Woman Wins $100,000 Lottery Prize

Story Photo audio icon A stop for a Powerball ticket led one Memphis woman to a $100,000 prize.  Catherine Brown, 51, didn’t win the Powerball jackpot, but she did win a top prize on a Missouri Lottery "10X The Money" Scratchers ticket that she purchased at Casey’s General Store, 110 N. Clay St. in Memphis.

Brown, a server at Catfish Place in Arbela, said she found out she was a winner at her home when she scratched off her winning ticket.  She immediately called her fiancé to share the news, but added, "I don’t think he believed me at first."

Brown had to leave for work, so she put the ticket in a safe place until she was able to claim it at a Lottery office.

"I gave it (ticket) to a good friend, and she locked it in her lock box," she said.

The first-time Lottery winner plans to put her winnings into a retirement fund.

"10X The Money," a $5 game with a top prize of $100,000, offers players the chance to win 20 times on a single ticket.  The game has five top prizes and thousands of $5 to $20,000 prizes remaining in play.
