Kurtis Hall of Essex enjoys gathering with friends, as well as “some of the best barbeque in southeast Missouri,” at Tooties, 13166 State Highway 225 in Dexter. On Oct. 18, he also enjoyed winning the Lottery there. Hall, 57, won $20,000 on a Missouri Lottery “100 Million Dollar Blockbuster” Scratchers ticket he purchased at Tooties, claiming his prize at the Lottery’s St. Louis regional office on Oct. 22.
“I was sitting at a table (in the store) when I scratched the first row,” he said, recalling how his win unfolded. “I started shaking like a leaf and yelling, and they were all back there by the time I started the second row.”
When all the scratching was done, Hall and his friends were looking at a card worth $20,000.
“They were as tickled as I was,” he said of his friends’ reactions.
Although Hall is a regular Scratchers player, he said he doesn’t necessarily have a favorite ticket he likes to play.
“I play about every game – just a little at a time, and I go with my gut feeling,” he shared.
Hall and his wife, Joyce, bought a house a few years back and have decided to use part of the prize money to pay down their mortgage “so payments are going more toward the house than interest.”
“And we’ve got 15 grandkids who are expecting Christmas,” he added.
“100 Million Dollar Blockbuster,” a $10 game that officially began Sept. 26, 2007, has five remaining top prizes of $1 million. Details about remaining prizes for “100 Million Dollar Blockbuster” and all other Missouri Lottery Scratchers games can be found on Molottery.com.
