Springfield Woman Wins First 'Mega Bucks'

Patty Wellman of Springfield is the first player to uncover a top prize of $100,000 on the Missouri Lottery’s new “Mega Bucks” Scratchers game.  Wellman, 52, purchased her winning ticket at Rapid Roberts, 3106 W. Battlefield in Springfield.

The registered nurse was on her way home from the mall when she decided to stop for a soda and two Scratchers tickets – “Mega Bucks” and “Mega MONOPOLY™.”

After scratching the tickets in her car and realizing she had “won big,” an anxious Wellman went back inside to talk to the store’s clerk, Jackie.

“Jackie asked me what was wrong,” she began.

Wellman replied, “nothing, but I think I have a big winner.”

“Jackie checked it and was excited for me,” she shared.  “She gave me the ticket back and said, ‘You won $20,000.’  I said, “No, it’s $100,000!”

“I almost had a heart attack when I saw that I won.”

Wellman plans “to save the money” to help make up for some losses suffered in the stock market last year, but said she may also “take $1,000 out to splurge.”

Remaining prizes for “Mega Bucks” total more than $13 million.  The $5 Scratchers game, which officially began Sept. 26, offers more than 500 prizes from $1,000 to $100,000.
