New London Woman Wins $10,000
A New London woman’s regular stop for coffee and Scratchers tickets has paid off. Janet Beach, 53, frequently stops at Abel’s Quik Shop, 409 W. First St. in New London, on her way home from work. She works overnight at the General Mills plant in Hannibal and likes to get some Scratchers tickets to help her unwind. Beach stopped one morning in early October and picked out a Missouri Lottery "$500,000 Cash Spectacular" Scratchers ticket. After uncovering the $10,000 prize in the parking lot, she quickly shared the news with her husband, Randy.
"I called my husband and went home," began Beach. "I said, ’Look at this and tell me what you think.’ I was pretty excited."
Beach, who plays Scratchers tickets on a regular basis, has won prizes as large as $1,000 before, but this is her largest win to date. She already knows how they will spend the prize money.
"He owns his own business, so we’re going to take care of the quarterly taxes," explained Beach.
"We’re going to get a laptop. Because we don’t have a computer, we’re going to try and get into the 21st century."
Beach indicated that she would continue to the play the Lottery and offered some advice for other players.
"I thought $1,000 was fantastic; $10,000 is beyond." She added, "Keep playing. If you don’t play, you won’t win."
"$500,000 Cash Spectacular"
is a $10 game that officially began on March 28. The game offers a top prize of $500,000.
