Tipton Couple Top Off Day with $20,000 Win
A Tipton couple enjoying the relaxed life of retirement found themselves with a lot to be excited about. Donald Hoff frequently buys different Missouri Lottery Scratchers games at Beverage Hut, 207 U.S. Highway 50 W. in Tipton. Hoff, who "bought a couple of other tickets" on Oct. 5, said he decided to play a game he didn’t usually play, "$200,000 A Year For Life," too. It was a decision that turned out to be worth $20,000.
"I saw the big zero, and I told the proprietor, I said, ’Hey I won a good one here.’"
According to Hoff, the clerk thought he might have won $1,000. However, as he kept scratching and seeing more zeros appear, he began to convince the clerk that he won a larger prize.
"That made me pretty happy," he shared.
The former lineman immediately drove to his home to share the news with his wife, Judy.
"I didn’t get too excited until he told me what he won," she added over laughter.
The Hoffs, who recently celebrated their 50-year wedding anniversary, said they have "a lot of fun" playing the Lottery, but never expected to win anything this big. They added that they didn’t currently have any plans for the prize money, so for now, it will go in the bank.
