Congratulations to the “Won’t Be Left Behind” team, a group of 10 Powerball-playing friends and long-time associates at the Troy Wal-Mart. The team has been recognized as the October Lottery Team of the Month as part of the Missouri Lottery’s 2009 Lottery Captains promotion, earning the group a prize package and a feature at Molottery.com.
Team members include: Charlotte Bono, Debbie Burns, Annette Eason, Bonnie Galloway, Norma Luck, Carol Mathers , Bev Menne and Kathy Williams, all of Troy; Linda Bueneman of Moscow Mills; and Carol Todd of Hawk Point.
The team has been pooling their resources together for about five years, playing Powerball as well as Missouri Lottery Scratchers games. According to team captain Charlotte Bono, she generally buys Powerball tickets for 10 draws at a time and takes advantage of the Power Play option – an extra feature that allows winners to multiply original prize amounts.
Though the team’s winnings haven’t exceeded $35 yet, Bono said they enjoy saving what they do win to “go out to eat at the casino,” continuing to play each week “in hopes of being able to retire.”
“I think we all have our own dreams about what we’ll do when we win,” she said.
As far as organizing their efforts and collecting ticket money, Bono said, “no one will be left behind, so I always cover anyone who hasn’t paid up.” That’s a rare occurrence, though.
“They’re usually the ones who ask me if it is time to pay.”
For other groups who may be thinking about forming a Lottery team, Bono’s advice is to “just keep playing.”
“Someone has to win and it might as well be one of us,” she added.
