Vandalia Man's Pick 4 Numbers Deliver

Story Photo audio icon A Vandalia man’s dedication to playing Pick 4 paid off with a $3,125 win.  Jayson Schoen, 20, said he plays "all the time," but he had never won a Missouri Lottery prize.  His luck changed when he purchased a Pick 4 ticket at Pick-A-Dilly, 101 E. Highway 54 in Vandalia, on Sept. 22.

"At first, I didn’t believe I won, but I kept checking it, and I did," he began.  "I got to Jefferson City as fast as I could."

Schoen, who "usually plays three numbers a day," said he prefers selecting random "odd numbers," but his choices vary.

"If you get a number, stick with it, just don’t ever change it, and hopefully some good will come out of it."

This might be Schoen’s first Missouri Lottery win, but he isn’t new to the idea of winning.  Last year, while he was living in Arizona, he won a lifetime supply of gasoline, which comes in the form of a $3,000 check each year for 20 years.

"A gas station was having an advertisement to win gas for life," he started.  "I spent $15 on gas, scratched the card, and it said I was a finalist.  About a month later, the radio station that was hosting it called me, and said I was the grand prize winner out of 250,000 people."

When asked about plans for his most recent windfall, he said he will take his family to dinner and "save the rest."

Pick 4 is 50 cents or $1 per play and has an average of 130 winners per draw.  Players can win from $30 to $6,000 on a $1 play by matching a wide variety of numbers and combinations.  Drawings are held daily at 12:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.
