Change in Plans Leads Columbia Woman to "Crossword" Cash

On the way to a doctor’s appointment, a Columbia woman decided to stop at Ultra Mart, 3101 S. Providence Road in Columbia, to cash in a Missouri Lottery "Crossword" Scratchers ticket. The ticket was worth $3, but rather than receive the money, Jerri Kindle, 38, tried her luck on another "Crossword" ticket.
"I very seldom buy Scratchers tickets," she revealed.
Yet, it was the spur-of-the moment decision on Sept. 21 that led her to a $5,000 prize.
The first-time Lottery winner plans to "put in a new heating system into the house" with the windfall.
As for advice for fellow Lottery winners, she said to "keep going."
"
Crossword," a $3 game with a top prize of $50,000, officially began on July 18.
