Cuba Lab Tech Uncovers $20,000 Prize
A laboratory technician from Cuba made a profitable discovery on a Missouri Lottery "Scary Cash" Scratchers ticket on Sept. 4. After a closer examination, William Stabler, 48, realized he had won $20,000 on his last-minute purchase.
The father of two said a stop for gas at B & B Kwik Stop, 116 S. Service Road in Sullivan, fueled him to buy the ticket.
"Something drew my attention to the ’Scary Cash’ game," he recalled. "I bought one, and I thought I won $20."
As luck would have it, he ended up winning one of the game’s top prizes. His next step was to call his wife with the news.
"She thought I was joking," he added with a laugh.
When asked about plans for the windfall, he noted that they planned to "pay off the mortgage" and purchase a new vehicle for one of their children.
"
Scary Cash," a $2 game with a top prize of $20,000, officially began on Aug. 29.
