Rolla Couple Wins $2,500 Lottery Prize
A random purchase of a Missouri Lottery "Red Hot Cherries" Scratchers ticket provided some excitement for a Rolla couple. Candace and Mike Dill stopped at Break Time, 1300 Highway 72 East in Rolla, the evening of Aug. 26 to pick up their regular Lotto ticket.
"We’ve been playing Missouri Lotto every week, and I was a little discouraged," began Candace. "So I looked at the scratch-off tickets and just picked one out. I haven’t bought a Scratchers ticket in months."
That impulse buy of a single ticket was all the Dills needed. It turned out to be worth $2,500.
"I looked at it, and then I looked at all the other ones," explained Candace. "Then I went back to that one, for some reason. I couldn’t tell you why."
The couple returned to their truck in the parking lot to scratch the ticket. That’s where they discovered their first big lottery win.
"She flipped out," recalled Mike. "She started screaming, ’We won $2,500!’ I didn’t believe her at first."
The Dills confirmed their win with the clerk inside, who, according to Mike, "was pretty excited, too." The two traveled to Jefferson City the next day to claim their prize.
When asked about plans for their winnings, the Dills answered in unison, "Pay bills!" The couple intends to put whatever remains in a bank account as a "cushion."
"Red Hot Cherries"
is a $2 game that officially began Feb. 28 and features a top prize of $25,000.
