Sedalia Woman Claims $77,000 Scratchers Prize

Shandi Lewis says she rarely buys Lottery tickets, but that didn’t stop the Sedalia woman from working out a plan that led to a $77,000 top prize on a Missouri Lottery “Sizzlin’ 7’s” Scratchers ticket.

Lewis, 43, reported that she uncharacteristically spent $35 on Scratchers tickets a couple of weeks before her big win.

“I won $538,” she said of the tickets she bought that day.  “I kept the $500 and have been playing on the $38 for two weeks.”

She was “cashing in previous winners” at Break Time, 2801 W. Broadway in Sedalia, when she purchased what would prove to be the winning “Sizzlin’ 7’s” ticket.   It would be the next day at work, however, before she scratched the ticket to reveal its top prize.

“I was in shock,” she said, even asking her co-workers “to take a look because I didn’t believe it.”

According to Lewis, the rest of her day unfolded accordingly.

“I called many people, went back to Break Time (to verify the ticket was a winner) and then to Independence (to claim the prize).”

She plans to use her prize money to “build a new garage – which I’m very excited about – and pay off some bills.”

Sizzlin’ 7’s” is a $5 game that officially began Feb. 29.  Details on remaining prizes for Sizzlin’ 7’s” and all Missouri Lottery Scratchers games can be found at Molottery.com.
