Columbia Couple Find Luck with Lottery Ticket

Story Photo A Columbia couple was doing the "Holy Ghost dance" on Aug. 22 after uncovering the top prize on a Missouri Lottery "Lucky Dog" Scratchers ticket.  Raydell Wright, 47, said he gave his wife two of the five tickets he purchased to scratch, while he placed the other three in his pocket for later.

"She scratched two of those five and won $5," he began.  "She told me to go ahead and scratch the other three off.  The second one was the $3,000, so I did my ’Holy Ghost dance.’"

According to Wright, a first-time Lottery winner, the dance consisted of jumping up and down and shouting "we won, we won, and thank you Jesus" over and over again.

Wright’s wife couldn’t believe their luck and said she feels "blessed and happy" by their good fortune.

In terms of advice for fellow Lottery players, the winners suggest going to Break Time, 301 Nebraska in Columbia, to purchase tickets at the same retail location where they had luck.

"It’s not luck, it’s a blessing," said Wright’s wife, while claiming the prize at the Jefferson City Lottery office.  "We really needed a new car, so we’re on our way to look at some after we leave today."

"Lucky Dog," a $1 game with a top prize of $3,000, officially began on Feb. 28.
