Raytown Man Takes Home the Money

Story Photo A Raytown man and his mother were "out and about" on Aug. 17 when they decided to stop by the Kansas City Lottery office and purchase a few Scratchers tickets.

"We both bought tickets from the machine," said Randy Bryan of Raytown.  "My mom scratched hers while we were there, and I took mine home."

It was at home that Bryan learned he was $20,000 richer.

"I saw that I won $1,000, and I immediately called my mom," he began.  "She told me to stay calm and keep scratching, because she thought I probably won more than that."

The Ford Motor Company employee said he never won more than $50 on a Lottery ticket, so this win was a shock, which fueled a restless night.

"I didn’t go to bed until about 4 a.m., and then I woke up again at 7 a.m.," he revealed.  "I didn’t believe it was real until I could claim the ticket."

Bryan, 28, said he plans to use the windfall as a down payment on a new house.

"This definitely lifts a huge burden for sure," he said.

In terms of advice for fellow Lottery players, Bryan wishes everyone "good luck," and he added to "stay calm" when scratching those winning tickets.

Bryan purchased the winning "10X the Money" Scratchers ticket at the Lottery’s Kansas City regional office, 3630 Arrowhead Road in Independence.

"10X the Money," a $5 Scratchers game with a top prize of $100,000, officially began on May 2.
