Columbia Man Celebrates Birthday with $20,000 Prize

Story Photo A Columbia man received an early birthday present when he discovered he won $20,000 on a Missouri Lottery "$250,000 Mega Cash" Scratchers ticket on Aug. 17.  Jeremy Jones, 27, purchased the winning ticket at Petro Mart, 3850 N. Rangeline Road in Columbia.

Jones said he was sitting in his vehicle when he scratched the winning ticket, and he could not wait to "see the money."

"Anything can happen," said Jones, who was still in shock after claiming his prize at the Jefferson City Lottery office.  "I told my mom and dad, and they were really excited, too," he shared.

The first-time Lottery winner plans to pay bills and "maybe buy some new clothes" with his windfall.

Jones, who works as a roofer in Columbia, says "you never know when you might win," and he plans to keep trying his luck on Scratchers tickets.

"This is a good start to my birthday," he added.
