Columbia Man Answers Bingo Call

Story Photo A retired Columbia man picked up a "Triple Bingo" Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket while running errands on August 7 that turned out to be worth $10,003.  William Crum bought the ticket at Midwest Petroleum, 1102 Business Loop 70 East in Columbia.  When he later stopped for a paper and to play his daily Pick 3 numbers, he discovered that the ticket was a winner.  But he wasn’t sure how much.
"The young lady scanned it and told me ’I can’t cash this,’" related Crum.  "She told me that I would have to take it to the Lottery office."
Crum continued on to meet an air-conditioning repairman at his church.  There, he called Missouri Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City to find out what he won.
"She told me that it was worth $10,003 over the phone," said Crum.  "I told her I was on my way."
True to his word, Crum made his way to Jefferson City to claim the prize.
"I told the repair guy to lock up after himself," Crum said.
Crum revealed plans for paying a few bills and buying a few things.  He explained that he and his wife might purchase new furniture, a digital camera, and that they might upgrade their computer.  And he’ll probably buy a few more Lottery tickets, too.
"Sometimes I’ll play my favorite numbers five times," explained Crum.  "If it comes in, I’ve done well."
"Triple Bingo" is a $3 game with a top prize of $50,003.  The game officially began on June 13 and has several prizes remaining.
