A lunch date with his wife paid off in a big way for Emmett Holmes of St. Louis when he discovered he held a Missouri Lottery “Monte Carlo” Scratchers ticket worth $25,000.

Having stopped to purchase Scratchers tickets at Phillips 66, 9653 St. Charles Rock Road in Breckenridge Hills, the couple “went down to eat lunch and scratched it (the winning ticket) at the table at the International House of Pancakes.”

“I couldn’t eat.  I couldn’t eat at all,” the retired Marine shared of the moment he realized the amount he had won.  He was in disbelief, as was his wife Viola.

Holmes said the pair “went straight from where we were eating” to claim their $25,000 prize at the Lottery’s St. Louis regional office.

When asked how he plans to spend the unexpected money, Holmes said he will “put it in a savings account.”

Monte Carlo,” a $5 game offering a top prize of $100,000, officially began on June 13.  Details about remaining prizes for “Monte Carlo” and all Missouri Lottery Scratchers games can be found on Molottery.com.
