KANSAS CITY MEN WIN LARGE LOTTERY PRIZES

Two Kansas City men are thousands richer after winning top prizes in Missouri Lottery games. Darrell Wood, 58, won $25,000 tax paid* playing SHOW ME 5 on Feb. 4, and Marvin Alport, 72, won $100,000 in the Feb. 5 Powerball drawing. Wood, who works for a drywall company, plans to use his windfall to pay some bills and take a golfing trip to Phoenix. Wood purchased his winning ticket at David’s Neighborhood Shoppe, 3302 Blue Ridge Cutoff in Independence. He used a combination of family birthdays to select the winning numbers. The winning numbers were: 3, 7, 13, 21 and 27. Alport purchased his winning ticket at Rupp’s Friendly Thriftway, 8929 Wornall in Kansas City. He let the computer select the winning numbers: 6, 11, 34, 41 and 44. * Twenty-eight percent federal and 4 percent state taxes are withheld from the total prize amount of $36,764.70 to provide $25,000 cash at the time of redemption. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may receive a refund.
