Congratulations to “Rumors,” a team of eight Powerball-playing machinists at Briggs & Stratton in Poplar Bluff. The group has been recognized as the August Lottery Team of the Month as part of the Missouri Lottery’s 2009 Lottery Captains promotion, earning the group a prize package and a feature at Molottery.com.
The “Rumors” team, led by captain Charlotte Storinger of Oxly, has been playing Powerball together for more than a year and also includes: Tim Bishop of Ellsinore; Glenda Emery of Doniphan; Wanda Lowery, Sabrina Monehan and Debbie Phelps, all of Poplar Bluff ; Linda Smith of Willionsville; and Patty Wring of Puxico.
“A couple of them saw me with a ticket and wanted to try it as a group,” Storinger said of the team’s beginnings. It started with three players and grew, with the group choosing its unique team name because they intend to “spread the word of how we became rich in the Missouri Lottery when we win!”
Every Monday, each player contributes $2 to cover the Powerball drawings held on Wednesday and Saturday nights. Each member has their own set of numbers they use and, according to Storinger, winnings are “reinvested into more Powerball tickets.”
Team rules for the group are simple. “You pay, and if you don’t pay, we give you a week to catch up,” said Storinger.
“But everyone pays,” she continued, “so there are no real rules. Just that we’re going to have a big party if we win, and we’re renting a limo [to claim the big prize].”
Beyond party plans and hopes of a road trip in a limousine, she said, “A lot are going to retire,” if the group hits a large jackpot prize.
