St. Louis Salesman Keeps Lottery Win Secret
Secrets are hard to keep, especially when you’re keeping a secret from your wife. Ralph Desroche doesn’t want his wife, JoAnn, to know he won $200,000. At least he doesn’t want her to know yet.
Desroche, 55, a salesman from St. Louis (63040), matched five white-number balls on the July 4 Powerball drawing to win $200,000. He purchased his winning ticket at Schnuck’s, 15425 Manchester Road in Ballwin, and has been carrying it in his wallet for three weeks.
“I haven’t told my wife yet,” explained Desroche. “I’m going to make it a big production and take her to the location where I proposed to her and break the news.” The Desroches have been married for 13 years.
Desroche discovered his win at a friend’s house on July 5, when he read the winning Powerball numbers in the newspaper. He describes himself as a low-key guy and decided not to tell anyone about his lottery win.
“My friend just said, ‘it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy,’” said Desroche.
Desroche plans on buying a new vehicle for his wife and saving for their children’s education, as well as giving to his favorite charity.
“The Lord has blessed me. I’ll give some to my church,” stated Desroche.
