A Colcord, Okla., woman and her guest will soon be traveling to Hollywood to audition for a spot in an upcoming "Wheel of Fortune" television game show. Sharon Walkup’s name was drawn Dec. 30 in the third of six Missouri Lottery "Wheel of Fortune" promotion drawings. The lottery received approximately 17,100 entries for the third drawing. "I just told my husband the other day that I was going to take him with me (if she won)," said Walkup, 53. The prize includes a trip for two to Hollywood for four days and three nights, complete with airfare, hotel accommodations and airport/studio shuttle. Each of the six top-prize winners will also receive a check for $1,000 and will get a chance to audition for the "Wheel of Fortune" game show. Walkup’s audition date has not been set. In addition to the trip and cash, the lottery will also pay 4 percent state and 28 percent federal withholding taxes on the value of the prize package. If Walkup is selected to be a contestant on a future "Wheel of Fortune" game show as a result of the audition, she will be flown back to Hollywood for another complimentary three days and two nights stay to compete on the show. The Missouri Lottery’s "Wheel of Fortune" promotion started Sept. 25, 1999, and will end April 14. To enter, players can use non-winning "Wheel of Fortune" Scratchers tickets, watch the syndicated "Wheel of Fortune" game show and note which television contestant won the game show on the date watched, along with the position of the winning player. Walkup’s winning ticket was completed with information from the Dec. 7, 1999, show which is aired on KTUL, Channel 8, in Tulsa, Okla. She purchased the ticket at The Mill, Highway O in Southwest City. Walkup said though she doesn’t normally buy lottery tickets, the "Wheel of Fortune" promotion interested her, since she is an avid "Wheel" fan. Walkup said she has entered about 15 entries during the promotion. Walkup, who is a homemaker and babysitter for her granddaughter, said this isn’t the first trip to California that she’s won. In 1980, she won a trip to Disneyland and Hollywood through a contest at a Tulsa radio station. To enter, players should take entries in business-size envelopes to any Missouri Lottery office or mail them to: Wheel of Fortune Drawing PMB 369 901 Missouri Boulevard Jefferson City, MO 65109 Three additional drawings will be held on Jan. 3, Feb. 29 and April 28. Along with a grand-prize winner from each drawing, the lottery will award 1,350 Missouri Lottery/"Wheel of Fortune" T-shirts.
