State Worker Wins $20,000 Lottery Prize

A Jefferson City woman was on her lunch break when she realized she was holding a winning Missouri Lottery "Star Spangled Doubler" Scratchers ticket worth $20,000 on June 30.  Crystal Baker, 32, scratched the ticket in her car, and she "couldn’t believe" what she was seeing.

"I bought four tickets, and three of them were losers," she began.  "The last ticket I scratched was the winner.  I went back and checked the other three tickets to make sure I didn’t miss something!"

Baker, a children’s services worker, started her day off by locking her car keys in her car, but the $20,000 surprise was a nice end to a long day.

"I kept the ticket in my glove compartment all day while I was finishing work," she said.  "I kept going back to my car to check and make sure the ticket was still there."

When asked about plans for the windfall, the first-time Lottery winner said she’s going to take a trip to Disney World with her niece.

"I will put the rest in savings," she added.

In terms of advice for fellow Lottery players, Baker suggests buying the $2 Lottery tickets, because they are her "favorite ones."

Baker purchased the winning ticket at Fast Lane, 2116 Paris Road in Columbia on June 30.

"Star Spangled Doubler," a $2 game with a top prize of $20,000, officially began on May 2.
