Congratulations to the “Power Players,” a group of Powerball-playing co-workers at a financial institution in Boonville. The group has been recognized as the July Lottery Team of the Month as part of the Missouri Lottery’s 2009 Lottery Captains promotion. Each month, the promotion awards a Lottery group with a prize package and a feature at Molottery.com.
Led by team co-captains Pam Hicklin of Boonville and Denise Waller of New Franklin, the “Power Players” have been playing the Lottery together for about a year. Their team roster also includes: Curtis Carter, Amber Davis, Harry Enderle, Meagan Heckman, Sharon Hoefer, April Schnell, Jill Thoma and Emily Weathers, all of Boonville; Gayla Smith of Nelson; and Pat Sweeney of Pilot Grove.
“Keep playing,” Hicklin explained as her team’s strategy for winning. “You have just as much chance of winning as anyone.”
Rules for “Power Players” membership are simple. According to Hicklin, “You have to be 18 and you have to play all the time or not at all.”
Each player agrees to contribute $2 per week for Powerball drawings held on Wednesday and Saturday nights. The team’s tickets contain an equal split between numbers the group selects on their own and Quick Pick numbers randomly generated by the computer. Hicklin said all small winnings “go back into the pot” to buy more Powerball tickets.
“We talk about it when the pot gets really big,” she said, referring to dreams of hitting a large jackpot prize. Depending on the amount, “Some of us would pay bills, go on big trips or just retire.”
“The party is at my house if we win big,” she added.
