BLUE SPRINGS POSTAL WORKER BAGS $25,000 PRIZE

A 51-year-old postal service employee from Blue Springs picked up a check for $25,000 tax paid* this morning after matching all five numbers drawn in Friday night’s SHOW ME 5 drawing. Larry Phillips said he will probably use the money to fix up his house, buy a different car and maybe help his son pay for college. Phillips purchased his winning ticket on Jan. 7 at Price Chopper, 4201 S. Noland Road in Independence, when he stopped for groceries and to cash in winning Scratchers tickets. He let the computer pick the combination on his winning ticket. The lucky numbers were: 3, 15, 21, 23 and 24. To date, 817 SHOW ME 5 tickets worth $25,000 cash have been sold since the game began in November 1994. * Twenty-eight percent federal and 4 percent state taxes are withheld from the total prize amount of $36,764.70 to provide $25,000 cash at the time of redemption. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may receive a refund.
