For Rachel Hansen, a $50,003 win playing the Missouri Lottery’s “Triple Bingo” Scratchers game came at “the perfect time.” She purchased her winning ticket at Shayan EZ Shop, 8505 Woodland Ave. in Kansas City, on May 21 and redeemed it at the Lottery’s Kansas City regional office the following day.
“Disbelief is probably the best description,” she said, recounting her reaction when she realized she was holding a winning ticket.
“We checked it probably 20 times,” the 28-year-old said, before signing the back of the ticket and putting it in a safe place until she could get to a Lottery office.
“It wasn’t real until we got here,” she continued. “I’m numb.”
Still trying to figure out exactly what to do with her newfound winnings, she said there are “so many things,” but she does know where she’ll start.
“I’m splitting it with my sister and my mom.”
“Triple Bingo,” a $3 game that offers a top prize of $50,003, officially began on Jan. 14. To date, the game has awarded more than $8 million in prizes to Missouri Lottery players.
The Missouri Lottery generates nearly $1 billion a year in sales and contributes more than $265 million annually to Missouri public education programs, including the A+ Scholarship Program, the Virtual Schools program, Special Education Excess Costs, the Vocational Rehabilitation Program and Future Minority Teacher Scholarships. In fiscal year 2008, the Missouri Lottery ranked sixth in percentage increase in sales among the 42 United States lotteries.
