Florissant Man Wins $76,686 Show Me Cash Prize

audio icon A Florissant man received some very good news before heading to work on April 24.  Alfonzo Shelton, a 67-year-old part-time America Center employee, discovered he was $76,686 richer after checking his Missouri Lottery Show Me Cash numbers from the April 23 drawing in the newspaper.

According to Shelton, he usually plays his own numbers, but a decision to try a "$5 worth of Quick Picks" proved to be a very profitable one.

"My regular numbers haven’t been doing anything," he revealed.  "So I thought, ’Well, let me just take $5 of the Quick Picks.’"

Shelton, a father of four, purchased the tickets the night of the drawing from Schnucks Market, 74 Grandview Plaza Shopping Center in Florissant, while grocery shopping.

When asked about plans for the windfall, Shelton noted he intended to put the money in savings and "see what we want to do with it."

The idea of winning the Lottery is not new for Shelton, who won $12,000 playing Pick 4 several years ago.

Sheltonwas the 33rd Show Me Cash Jackpot winner since the game began on Sept. 8.

Show Me Cash offers a rolling jackpot starting at $50,000, which increases by at least $5,000 at each drawing.  To date, more than $3.3 million has been awarded in the game.
