Lebanon Welder Wins $100,000 Prize Days Before Birthday

Story Photo audio icon A Lebanon father of two celebrated his birthday with a $100,000 Missouri Lottery win.  John Roeder, a first-time Lottery winner, says he was "shocked" when he realized he won the top prize on a "Cash Explosion" Scratchers ticket that he purchased at Ramey’s Super Market, 550 N. Jefferson Ave. in Lebanon, on April 17.  According to Roeder, 25, he scratched the ticket while standing at the store counter only a few days before his birthday, which was on April 21.

"I went home, and I called my wife," he revealed.  "She thought I was lying."

Roeder’s wife was visiting her father in the hospital at the time, so Roeder drove to meet them and prove that he was indeed holding a winning ticket in his hands.

"I was shaking," he said.

After showing his wife and father-in-law the winning ticket, Roeder said everyone was "pretty quiet."

Roeder and his wife have plans to purchase a home with their windfall.

When asked about additional ideas for the prize money, Roeder noted he’d like to buy a four-wheeler.

"My daughter wants a go-cart, but we’ll see," he said.

"Cash Explosion," a $5 Scratchers game with a top prize of $100,000 taxes paid, officially began on Jan. 14.
