St. Peters Man Uncovers $50,000 Crossword Prize

A St. Peters man is trying to decide exactly what he wants to do with the $50,000 top prize he recently won playing the Missouri Lottery’s newest “Crossword” Scratchers game.

“I don’t know.  I’ve never had that much before,” said Ronnie Gatson, 57, when asked about plans for his prize money.  “But I’m gonna enjoy it.”

Gatson purchased his winning ticket at QuikTrip, 8815 Page Blvd. in Overland on March 9.

As he scratched the ticket in the store and the game’s hidden words began to be revealed, he could see that he had won something but wasn’t certain how much.

“I didn’t know what I had won, but I was seeing these words,” he said.  He quickly handed his ticket to the cashier for a quick scan and confirmation.

“How sweet it was!” he declared.

Gatson is the first player to claim a top prize on the new $3 “Crossword” game, which officially began on Feb. 28.  More than $12 million in prizes, including 13 $50,000 prizes, remain.
