St. Joseph Woman Wins $20,000 on Valentine's Day

Story Photo A St. Joseph woman decided to buy a few holiday-themed Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets on Valentine’s Day to celebrate the occasion.  Amanda Everett, 25, said she liked the "heart ones," so she purchased two "Lucky Hearts" tickets while grocery shopping at Hy-Vee, 201 N. Belt Highway in St. Joseph.

"My fiancé, Chris, and I decided to stay in on Valentine’s Day," began Everett.  "We were eating dinner when I scratched off the ticket."

It was while sitting at the kitchen table that Everett discovered that she was $20,000 richer.

"I was really glad I was sitting down at the time I realized I won," she confessed.

According to Everett, a first-time Lottery winner, she is looking forward to purchasing a new vehicle, saving for her 14-month-old son’s college tuition and placing some of the money into the "wedding fund."

"We’re going to get married sometime in the spring or summer, so this money will help us with the wedding costs," said Everett.

"Lucky Hearts," a $2 game with a top prize of $20,000, officially began on Jan. 14 and has three top prizes remaining.
