Christopher De La Garza of Blue Springs regularly purchases coffee with a side order of Missouri Lottery tickets. It was a plan that recently paid off with a $10,000 win. And it’s not the first time.
De La Garza, 45, normally buys “a few” Scratchers tickets, but this time he “only bought one” when stopping for a cup of coffee at QuikTrip, 4740 S. Arrowhead Dr. in Independence. He tucked the “$200,000 A Year For Life” ticket away and didn’t scratch it until “getting ready for bed later that night” - making for a late night once reality set in.
“I stayed up very, very late,” he said.
It’s not the first time De La Garza has been presented with a $10,000 win. In fact, he has won the same amount on Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets twice before, once with “Lifetime Riches” in April of 2007 and again with “4 Million Dollar Cash Bonanza” in February of 2008.
Some would call that very lucky. De La Garza joked that he “should have saved my luck until tonight,” noting that the Show Me Cash jackpot continues to rise.
He doesn’t have definite plans for his latest winnings but said, “I might take my girlfriend on a trip to Branson” for some shopping.
“$200,000 A Year For Life” is a $20 game offering the best payout percentage in Missouri Lottery history. Three lucky players will win the top prize of $200,000 a year for the rest of their lives, 20 players will walk away with $100,000 and an additional 40 players will win $20,000.
