“For several years, the same bunch has come up here to drink coffee. And we play cards if the weather is cold,” said Robert Tuggle, representing a group of 13 regulars at Sharp’s BP in Bethany. Following the Jan. 23 Show Me Cash drawing, they had a bit more than camaraderie to celebrate.
Through the years, the group – whose members range in age from 24 to 76 – have also been known to “get pools going” when the Powerball or Lotto jackpots “get big.” In what proved to be a good move, the friends recently added Show Me Cash to their playlist and were rewarded with the jackpot prize of $212,306.
As luck would have it, a small Powerball win led to the big prize.
“We won $7 on Powerball on Wednesday, so we decided to throw that $7 towards Show Me Cash,” Tuggle explained. One of the men checked their ticket early the next Monday morning, and the calls to share the good news began at about 6:30 a.m.
“By 8 o’clock, we were all up here at BP,” he continued with a laugh.
“I’m sure everybody’s got some plans for it,” Tuggle responded to inquiries as to where the prize money might potentially go. “Everybody could use it, and we’re glad we were able to share it.”
The group consists of: Norman Blessing, Gordon Comer, Billy Crocker, Carroll Fordyce, Carl Heuerman, Bryan Pash, Jimmy Seeley, Christopher Shipers, Gregory Sittner, Robert Tuggle and Raymond Wells, all of Bethany; Kenneth Plymell of Gilman City; and Darrel Buis of Ridgeway.
The winning ticket was purchased at Sharp’s BP, 3800 Miller St. in Bethany, using the Quick Pick feature to allow the computer to randomly select the numbers – 6, 17, 20, 27 and 32. The group’s ticket was the 17th to win a Show Me Cash jackpot. To date, Missouri Lottery players have won Show Me Cash jackpot prizes totaling $2,985,505.
