Webb City Woman "Passes Go" with $25,000 Prize

Story Photo A day of running errands turned out to be a lot more than the "usual" for one Webb City woman.  Denise Simon, 31, started off with a list of things to do on Feb. 3, but a desire for a "cold drink" led her to Casey’s General Store, 701 E. Main St. in Carterville.  It was there that a Missouri Lottery "Monopoly™" Scratchers ticket caught her eye, and eventually filled her pocket with $25,000.

"I like the Monopoly™ board game, so that’s why I bought one of the tickets," began Simon.  "I was with my mom in the car when I scratched it (ticket)."

Simon clarified that her mother was driving when she uncovered the $25,000 top prize.

"I screamed and told my mom, but she didn’t believe me," she said.

According to Simon, her mother had to pull over and see the ticket with her own eyes in order to believe the news.

"We went on with the day, but after we were done with everything, we drove to the Springfield Lottery office to claim the ticket," said Simon.

When asked about plans for the prize money, Simon, a first-time Lottery winner, said she was going to pay bills and "buy new clothes."

Monopoly™,” a $2 game with a top prize of $25,000, officially began on Oct. 4, 2008.
